Job Title: Accounting Room Employee
Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager, Floor Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
*This position is part time and located in Huron, SD. Desired schedule is 3 to 4 mornings per week, including every other weekend. Hours are 7am to 10am.
Summary
The accounting room employee is responsible for managing cash flow within the store, including receiving cash deposits from registers, verifying the accuracy of the money, balancing cash totals, preparing bank deposits, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring security of the cash on hand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the timely and thorough review of cash register transactions with all forms of payment including: cash, checks, gift cards, electronic benefits transactions (EBT), credit cards, and various coupons and in-store use or agency tax-exempt transactions
- Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents such as sales slips, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer print outs
- Summarizes details in separate ledgers or computer files and transfers data to a general ledger
- Reconciles and balances accounts
- Promptly notifies loss prevention of any register overages/shortages for timely investigation
- Maintain a neat and clean work space
- Promote Lewis initiatives and represent Lewis in a positive manner to our customers and communities
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required (or in progress)
- Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
- Excellent communication skills and problem solving skills
- Basic math and computer skills
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
- Must be able to constantly operate a cash register and other store equipment
- Ability to lift/move items up to 10 lbs constantly, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally with or without accommodation
